Our unique Portsmouth Football Pathway player training journey has been developed, in collaboration with Portsmouth College and the University of Portsmouth, to allow players and coaches to develop to the level their ambition desires. The ‘tube-map’ model is made up of three strands: performance (orange), academic (purple), destinations (yellow). Our members decide the stops they want to ‘get off at’ as they define their personal football journey.

Our primary focus is to deliver engaging, innovative coaching within a player centred, positive learning environment that our members immerse themselves in. All of our programmes follow their own specific year round syllabus, which enables us to compartmentalise the players and coaches learning into distinct learning blocks, with the focus on a particular theme for example 1 vs 1 attacking or the ‘four corner’ model.
We teach the techniques required to play and coach Football, with a vision to develop players that are comfortable in possession, creative and innovative on the ball and aesthetically pleasing to watch. All players and coaches are then set targets within the topic, catered to their stage of development.
What makes us unique?
Grow Your Own Model
Our model encourages the institutions and organisations involved in the pathway to create their own workforce, rather than employing one. A team with the same values and beliefs, developed through shared experiences, will have a greater chance of achieving a common goal.
Creating a Legacy
We are not in the parachute business and we will never follow the ‘coach and go’ model. Our trainer the trainer courses have helped us to create a sustainable eco-system that offers paid coaching positions to our aspiring coaches who are supported through online resources and CPD, ensuring the programme and staff consistently evolve.
The Association of Colleges have recognised the unique nature of the Football Pathway and have declared Portsmouth to be the first national ‘Football Super Hub.’
